In your profile you maintain your own user data: salutation, profile picture, first and last name, email address, username and password. Every logged-in user can open their own profile – no extra permission is needed.

## Open your profile
1. Click your name (with your profile picture) in the top right corner.
2. Click **Settings** (*Einstellungen*).
3. The page **Profile settings** (*Profil Einstellungen*) opens. The menu on the left also leads to your other personal settings:
   - **Profile** (*Profil*) – this page
   - **Basic Settings** (*Grund - Einstellungen*), see [Basic settings](/account/basic-settings.md)
   - **DSGVO**, see [Data protection (DSGVO)](/account/data-protection.md)
   - **Telegram Settings** (*Telegram Einstellungen*), see [Telegram notifications](/account/telegram-notifications.md) – only with the matching permission
   - **API access** (*API Zugang*) – API tokens, see [X-Sitter API](/api/overview.md) – only with the matching permission

## Change your data
1. Choose the salutation **Mrs.** (*Frau*) or **Mr.** (*Herr*).
2. Optional: upload a profile picture with **Choose file** (*Datei wählen*). JPG and PNG images are accepted.
3. Change **First name** (*Vorname*), **Last name** (*Nachname*), **E-mail address** (*E-Mail Adresse*) or **Username** (*Benutzername*) as needed.
4. Click **Save** (*Speichern*). X-Sitter confirms with **Your profile has been updated.** (*Dein Profil wurde aktualisiert.*).

## Change your password
1. Enter your new password in the field **New password** (*Neues Passwort*). Click the eye icon to show what you have typed.
2. The bar below the field shows how strong the password is.
3. Click **Save** (*Speichern*).

Leave the field empty if you do not want to change your password.

!!! warning Choose a strong password
Use at least 6 characters, better more than 10, and mix lowercase and uppercase letters, digits and special characters such as `! @ # % ^ & * ? _ ~ - ( )`.

## Fields and options

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| **Mrs.** / **Mr.** (*Frau* / *Herr*) | Your salutation. |
| Profile picture | Shown next to your name in the top right corner. JPG or PNG. |
| **First name** / **Last name** (*Vorname* / *Nachname*) | Your name as other users see it, e.g. in histories and on picklists. |
| **E-mail address** (*E-Mail Adresse*) | Can be used to log in. Also needed for [Forgot password](/account/forgot-password.md). Must be unique in X-Sitter. |
| **Username** (*Benutzername*) | Can be used to log in instead of the email address. Must be unique. Either the email address or the username must be filled in. |
| **New password** (*Neues Passwort*) | Only fill in if you want to change your password. |

## Good to know / Troubleshooting

| Message | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| **Please enter an email address or a username.** (*Bitte eine E-Mail-Adresse oder einen Benutzernamen angeben.*) | Both login fields are empty. | Fill in at least one of them. |
| **That email address already exists in the system.** (*Die E-Mail-Adresse existiert bereits im System.*) | Another user already uses this email address. | Use a different address. |
| **That username already exists in the system.** (*Der Benutzername existiert bereits im System.*) | Another user already uses this username. | Choose a different username. |
